Landscape Drawing with Charcoal
Landscape Drawing with Charcoal: Northumbrian Coastline
Explore the expressive qualities of charcoal to create a rich, tonal drawing of the iconic Northumbrian coastline
Saturday May 9th
10am – 4pm
Newcastle Arts Centre, Westgate Road, Newcastle
We’ll get to know the materials and apply charcoal’s different textures and effects to describe the landscape. We’ll look at how to find source material, explore the basic principles of composition, and sketch ideals, including your own reference images if you would like to work more independently on your final drawing. Then I’ll guide you through the development of a small charcoal drawing of a Northumbrian costal landmark.
By the end of the day, you will feel more confident with charcoal and the basic principles of landscape drawing. You’ll leave with a reference library of charcoal marks for future drawings and your own landscape charcoal drawing.
All abilities welcome.
All materials provided.
