The Waymarkers signifies the passage of time. It connects us with the past, with people's movement through landscapes, whilst rooting us firmly in the present. Without our constant movement and attention on the present moment, the landscape signals danger - the water across the mudflats is itself constantly moving.
Crossing these shifting sands is rarely a solo endeavour; collective action is key to success. Attention to the world around us - to light, objects, nature - becomes paramount. A connection between the present moment and collective memory opens up. The work affirms nature's power and humanity's capacity to live with and be shaped by our environment. It is the antidote to our digital age.
